Sarnian duo shine in ‘Evesham Double’

TWO Guernsey friends turned in top performances in the ‘Evesham Double’.

Rower Sam Dowding, 28, and Tristan Robilliard, a 30-year-old runner, made their way to Evesham in Worcestershire last weekend.

Saturday saw Dowding take part in the Evesham Rowing Club’s indoor Golden Mile event.

Contestants race each other over a mile on Concept 2 rowing machines.

Dowding managed the third fastest time of the day when he posted an impressive 4min. 57sec.

It also saw him pick up the silver medal in the open class.

‘I am pleased, but I know I can do better than that,’ he said. ‘It’s something to improve on. It was a good trip away.’

Not done there, the following day he strapped on his running shoes to join Robilliard in the Evesham Vale 10km cross-country event.

In a field of more than 600 runners, Dowding, without any proper running training, was 55th, while Robilliard came a staggering eighth in a time of 36-31.

Sam and Tristan are amazing ! Not only do they train hard (mentally) for those events, but they top the ranking! Now if they really trained harder (physically), as Sam said, they could do better. One can always improve, and I never doubted those two could finish first one day. Both of them should really represent Guernsey at the next Natwest Island Games in the Isle of Wight (2011). Scouts, go for them !

PS: Sam, you’d better stop drinking Guern Stout…^^….that, as you mention, is “something to improve on…” .
