A DRIVEWAY business has taken on two new staff to keep up with demand for its decorative designs.

Set up by former milkman John Jaap at the end of last year, the local Stonebond franchise has gone from strength to strength and completed more than 20 driveway design jobs in the island already.

‘The feedback from customers has been good. At one time we had a backlog of people wanting their drives done, so it seemed appropriate to take a couple of staff on.’

When Tony Hanley and Istvan Gorganyi joined the team, Mr Jaap immediately took them to the UK to get the necessary training and qualifications for operating the Stonebond system, which uses natural stone chippings and specialised resins. And because the materials come in a variety of colours, when bonded they can be made into whatever design a person wants.

Mr Jaap has a map of Guernsey on a patio at his house and designs for customers have included an anchor for a fisherman and a Budweiser bottle.

Since launching the company, Mr Jaap has sold his milk round and is now concentrating fully on Stonebond.

He also paid tribute to the help given to him by the Guernsey Enterprise Agency in launching the company and www. stonebondguernsey.co.uk.

We are extremely pleased with our new and beautiful Stonebond patio. Friends who remember our old paved areas are astonished at the reformation and beauty of the stonework. A very efficient and friendly crew – and all done with the minimum of fuss. Highly recommended!
