ROB SMART came out on top of the pack as the Adventure Cycles GVC Mountain Bike Tour of Guernsey came to a conclusion at the weekend.
The final two rounds of the tour were held on Saturday and yesterday at Chouet headland.
Saturday was a time trial sprint around one lap of the course, with competitors setting off at one minute intervals, while yesterday’s race was a standard cross-country run over the course for a set duration dependent upon the categories.
In the senior class, Smart was beaten to the honours on Saturday by James Roe and Michael Serafin, and both set off yesterday trying to power away from him.
Serafin led the race for a couple of laps, with Roe in second.
Roe suffered a mechanical failure on the second lap resulting in his retirement, dropping him down the overall standings.
As the race progressed, Smart looked to put the previous day’s third place behind him and re-establish his dominance at the front.
