Anthony QueripelGUERNSEY’S sand ace has helped Great Britain claim bronze in an international grass track competition in the Netherlands.

Last June, Anthony Queripel (pictured) upset the odds when he defeated some top UK riders to win the Condor Ferries Sand Ace Championship.

Following that and some other top performances, the 23-year-old Sarnian was picked for the Britain team for the International Grass Track 2009 in Aduard this month.

‘It was a good event and the track was nice,’ said Queripel. ‘It was a good standard of racing and there were some good fast people.’

Queripel joined Wales’ Dyfed Evans and frequent competitor on the Guernsey sands Dan Winterton of England in the British side.

‘It was an Englishman, a Welshman and a Guernseyman so it was well represented,’ joked Queripel.

Coming up against the Netherlands, Germany and France, Queripel and his team came home in third place.

The home side came first while France were second.

‘I’m happy with the result,’ said Queripel. ‘It was nice to be on the podium.’
