CISX summit is a first for the islands
Wednesday 22nd July 2009, 2:30PM BST.
LEADING global economists are to speak at the first Channel Islands Stock Exchange International business summit in September.
The summit, the first of its kind to be held in the Channel Islands, has been created not only to show off the CISX but also the merits of the island as a place to do business, according to the exchange’s chief executive Tamara Menteshvili (pictured).
‘I think the event will create quite a buzz. It is a showcase opportunity for the Channel Islands and the CISX and, we hope, a destination-making event.
‘Since the G20 meeting, when Guernsey and Jersey were given good reports, the eyes of the world have been on us so we want to build on that and, along with the exchange being named best business at the Awards of Achievement, to bring business people from around the world to the islands to show them what we can do.
‘We have speakers coming from the Middle East, Switzerland, New York and a variety of other places, which brings something to an event that is unheard of in Guernsey.
‘To get that, you would usually have to go away for it.’
The programme for the event, which takes place on 11 September at St Pierre Park, is split into three parts.
The first section will see guest speakers talk on current issues such as EU directives, tax matters and other threats.
Part two will look at the current business environment and how companies could be promoting themselves during a recession with international strategies, while the last section will see a debate on the global economic outlook.
