CAFE Noir owner Sid Freitas was devastated yesterday after his business was flooded for the tenth time in just over a year.
At about 7pm on Tuesday, he called the Fire & Rescue Service to pump out rainwater from the cafe at North Plantation, St Peter Port.
It had made its way down the building’s back wall, into the toilets, through the kitchen and the rest of the cafe.
It was the first day Mr Freitas had opened after an eight-day closure due to a previous flood.
‘It’s been a big problem for seven or eight months. I don’t know where the water is coming from,’ he said.
Mr Freitas bought the business about a year ago.
‘Every morning when I came in, there was a little water on the floor. I rang up the Environment Department to ask them to check the drains and they said they were fine. But then it happened again and again.’
He said his insurance company had sent a builder to find out where the water was coming from after it created a hole in the back wall.
