Jory’s hopes crash

NONE of the Guernsey shooting team at Bisley can quite believe it.
In successive years, two Guernseymen have led the Grand Aggregate, virtually from day one, in this the main event of the Commonwealth rifle-shooting calendar.
For the past four days it has been a nail-biting time for all of the Sarnian contingent at the Imperial meeting. Competition by competition, Sarnian eyes have been fixed on the leader board outside the headquarters of the National Rifle Association.
After every one, until yesterday’s Queen’s Prize first stage, the name Peter Jory (pictured) has been top of it.
The Queen’s was difficult yesterday but nothing that Jory normally wouldn’t cope with. Uncharacteristically, he dropped six points over three ranges which toppled him from first place to third equal with Bruce Horwood, a fellow Channel Islander in the Jersey team.
‘I didn’t feel I was on the same winning streak today and the Queen’s confirmed it,’ said Jory regretfully.
The Guernsey star is now behind two former Queen’s Prize winners, John Underwood and Glyn Barnett with one shoot to go, the Prince of Wales, this morning at 600 yards.
