NOBODY should underestimate the achievement of Peter Jory in this week’s main Commonwealth Rifle-Shooting event at Bisley in spite of his losing out in the Grand Aggregate which he had led for four days.

He will be coming home to Guernsey on Sunday with more silver in his luggage than any Guernseyman before him.

With some results still to be announced, Jory has won no fewer than four of Bisley’s main aggregate trophies and maybe more.

For scores in the second full day’s shooting of the meeting, he won the Sunday Aggregate Challenge Trophy and Gold Bar.

Out of the bullseye just once in three long-range shoots, the Duke of Cambridge, Conan Doyle and Corporation (all over half a mile), earned him the Elkington Challenge Cup.

A perfect score of 275 ex 275 in five different competitions at 300, 500, 600, 900 and 1,000 yards secured the New Zealand Trophy and the Brigadier Challenge Cup came his way for further outstanding shooting at the longer Bisley ranges.

Add to that Nick Mace’s win in the Stock Exchange and the haul of silver is quite remarkable for members of a single rifle club.

Jory ultimately finished 10th overall in the Grand Aggregate and Mace 13th.
