A FINAL flush of steady long-range shooting by team Guernsey at Bisley brought another trophy into island hands for the first time.
For their high-scoring performance in the three international matches – the Overseas, Kolapore and the Mackinnon – the Sarnians took the Dominion Challenge Cup.
Guernsey finished ahead of Jersey in all three matches
Two team awards and five individual trophies make up the biggest haul of silverware by a team of Guernsey rifle-shots in any one year at Bisley since shooting began there in the1890s.
Although Peter Jory and Nick Mace were the island leaders in the Grand Aggregate, this was also the year of the youngsters.
The only three islanders to tough out the difficult journey to the Queen’s Final 100 are all under 21 – Rob Waters, Nick Branch and his brother Jon, just 18 and awarded a coveted place in the ‘Queen’s 100’ only 10 days after shooting for Elizabeth College in the Ashburton.
