PROMINENT figures from the UK’s Chartered Management Institute have been in Guernsey to see the launch of the local branch.

CMI south-east regional manager Ian Staniforth said the organisation was delighted to see the establishment of another network.

‘Throughout the south-east, we very rarely get a new branch starting up so it’s great news. It gives the members in Guernsey a focal point to discuss issues of management and leadership. The branch will also be putting on events for members which will help them.’

He said he was impressed by the range of industries represented by the local committee as it was important not to concentrate on just one area, such as finance.

Regional forum chairman Roger Service said the addition of a new branch also helped the CMI on its way to its target of having 80,000 members across the UK. Currently it has 40,000.

The committee for the local CMI has already met for the first time but Susie Andrade, chairwoman of the Guernsey branch, said it was important to have the group formally launched and recognised at the reception held recently at BPP Professional Education at The Mallard.
