North shut up shop

Friday 31st July 2009, 2:30PM BST.

Dave FinnNORTH are desperately trying to stem the tide of players leaving the club.

The island’s leading outfit had a tremendous time last season when they won the inaugural Senior County Division One title.

However, in the lead-up to the new season, things have not been going so well and there has been an exodus of players out of Northfield during the June transfer window.

Close to 10 players have signed for other clubs and it seems the chocolate-and-blues are taking steps to try and stop others from going as well.

Rising star James Mullen has put in a transfer request to go to Guernsey Athletics, but North have refused to sign it.

‘We see him as a potential first team player and that’s why we’re trying to persuade him to stay,’ said North’s chairman Dave Finn (pictured).

‘We’re not stopping him. At the end of the day if he still wants to go after the coaches have spoken to him, it will go in front of the club’s committee.’

It is also understood that Garry Dodd is seeking a move to Rovers where former North and Rangers boss Mac Gallienne, has taken over as coach.

However, Finn said that this was ‘news to him’.

‘We’ve not had a transfer request in for Garry Dodd,’ he said.

The players that have left North include fringe players Etienne Le Prevost, Richard Moore and goalkeeper Tom Creed, who have all gone to Tics.
