Jersey riders make light of a wet Le Val des Terres

Saturday’s Kart Club meeting saw 21 no shows from 132 expected entrants, but two men who weren’t moaning – as they say it always rains in St Helier – were Jerseymen Lee Le Feuvre and Oliver Holmes.

The pair of motorcyclists have been fighting it out on the Channel Islands’ hills for some time and were the quickest men on the hill, as the wet roads kept the big single-seaters either on the sidelines or relatively quiet on a slippery hill.

Le Feuvre clocked the day’s FTD with a 36.45 on his fourth timed run but, as usual, fellow Caesarean Holmes pushed him hard with a 36.79.

The pair love it at the ‘Val Dees’ and both made light of the miserable weather.

‘[Wet or dry] I don’t mind either way to be fair,’ said Holmes.

‘You’ve got wet tyres and you just hold on a bit more,’ he said, with a hint of tongue in cheek.

‘The hill here flows and there are no dangerous turns – nothing aggressive,’ said Holmes, comparing it to the Bouley Bay course, which is renowned as a more technical hill.

Quite obviously, the two men have stacks of ability and are not short on courage.

‘I think we’re a little more stupid,’ joked Holmes, adding, ‘anyway we are here now so we might as well race.’

Le Feuvre, who opened the day with a 37.66 and took it down by 65 hundredths next time up, loves the competition in the 351-500cc bikes class.

‘On a dry day it could be between five-six-seven riders,’ he said.

‘No one is better than anyone on the day.’
