Nick hopes cafe plans will be Environment’s cup of tea

IT HAS taken seven years, but Vazon Bay Cafe could soon be in line for a revamp.0816861

Manager Nick Percy has tried in vain to get permission from the Environment Department to renovate the run-down States-owned building, but he is now gearing up for another attempt.

‘We will be putting in another application in the near future, but the architect has not done the drawings yet,’ he said.

‘So we don’t know what it’s going to look like yet. We know it won’t be two-storey because that was rejected last time, but there will hopefully be a balcony on the top.

‘Most of the west coast places now seem to have an area to sit out and look at the sea and they look really nice.’

Mr Percy said he was trying to maximise the building’s potential.

‘It has cost a lot of money so far to get nowhere,’ he said.

    Bring it on!!

Vazon is crying out for a decent kiosk. The current one does a good job considering its age and is in a great spot for beach users but badly needs redeveloping considering the number of people who visit it each week.

Single storey with a balcony would be fantastic (Crabby Jacks, the Rockmount and the Mirage at Pembroke have all been vastly improved by adding balconies).

Can’t wait – good luck this time Nick!

Can’t but lend support to the family’s efforts. The expansion of users in and around Vazon warrants a more modern, out door sport friendly location.

If the States go for some sort of PFI deal on this. ie, Percy’s build, get a 25 year lease and a peppercorn rent, I trust there will be some SLA with a step in clause.

The Mirage, in my humble opinion, has been a disaster in design, build and management. If ever there was an opportunity lost, the Mirage is/was it.
