Buckley and Fooks take top honours
Tuesday 4th August 2009, 1:00PM BST.
TWO home players came out on top when La Grande Mare hosted two of the club’s main highlights of the year.
Nine-handicapper Kevin Buckley shot an excellent net 62, two-under-par, to win the men’s open by a stroke from Roger Smith, whose 63 came off a 15 handicap.
Buckley’s gross 71 was the second best of the day, with the scratch honours going to 2008 island champion Garry McFarlane, who carded 70.
Meanwhile, in the women’s open, Karen Fooks was the only player to record an under-par Stableford score, racking up 37 points off her 24 handicap to finish one ahead of Kay Allsopp and Lynne Cottignies.
In a repeat of the men’s event, last year’s island champion Jan Chamberlain finished top of the scratch standings, also thanks to a 70 gross.
Other prize winners included Jeanette Upham (high handicap) and visitor Gudrun Bjarnadottir.
