PUPILS will be taught in temporary classrooms at La Mare de Carteret High for at least another four years.0817840

Education has been installing three new temporary buildings on the site to cope with the rise in pupil numbers next term following the closure of St Peter Port Secondary.

It means there will be 10 such classrooms at the school until it is rebuilt.

Deputy Education minister Allister Langlois said it would not stop the children from learning.

‘Teachers say these are as good as classrooms in a proper building,’ he said.

‘They are self-contained and done to a good standard. This is not a long-term solution, but it is something that was needed to make the school changeover possible.’

He said plans to rebuild La Mare were moving forward behind the scenes but Les Beaucamps High was to be done first.

‘There is a long planning process before you can rebuild a school. La Mare does need to be rebuilt, but it is not practical to rebuild more than one school at a time.’

I’m confused. Who judges what state and which order these schools should be dealt with? I’m not trying to cause an argument but I remember being at La Mare 10 years ago and it certainly needed to be pulled down then. I also seem to remember that St Sampsons had much nicer facilities in a more capable building than the temporary structure erected at la mare and yet St Sampsons is now unused? I feel really sorry for the guys and girls at La Mare. I am in no place to comment about Les Beaucamps but am sure is in great need of a face lift as well.

It is funny that these cabins are reportedly a temporary measure and yet I thought the schools were only built meant as a temporary measure?!?
