Belgrave neighbours say no to site expansion
Friday 7th August 2009, 2:00PM BST.
ST SAMPSON’S residents have spoken out against proposals to expand the industrial use of Belgrave Vinery.
Environment has announced a planning inquiry that will investigate making the light industry park one acre bigger.
But residents said the current site already draws too much heavy traffic to nearby narrow roads.
John Rolph, 74, has lived off Rue de Bas for more than 30 years. He said it was not good for the area.
‘I am dead against this expansion,’ he said. ‘It looks like a rubbish site. Skip lorries drive up the road and it’s just not big enough. Cars park along the road and it is an accident waiting to happen.’
Eric Page, 90, has lived close to the site for more than 40 years.
‘The traffic has gotten a lot worse since it opened,’ he said. ‘They should never have put the site here and they definitely shouldn’t expand it.’
