Education to use own money to progress Les Beaucamps work
Friday 7th August 2009, 1:00PM BST.
EDUCATION will dip into its own funds to progress plans to redevelop Les Beaucamps High School.
Treasury and Resources last month rejected a request from the department for money for fees to take the project to tender stage.
Deputy Treasury minister Jack Honeybill said it had made its position clear to Education previously.
‘No capital projects, including any preliminary work, should be undertaken in advance of the States debate in September on the revised capital programme timeline which T and R will be submitting for consideration,’ he said.
When the States approved the amended capital report, it authorised Treasury to release money for projects on the list to continue to tender stage.
Education minister Carol Steere said it would now be advertising for expressions of interest from contractors and project managers for the build.
She indicated last month that it would cost £1m.-plus to get to the tendering stage.
‘The Education board will be fighting hard to make Les Beaucamps a top priority within the revised States capital programme.
‘It is important that we keep the momentum going on this key social project,’ said Deputy Steere.
‘We will be making it clear that the project is still subject to States approval.’
She said the work would be advanced to a point where it was ready to progress to the detailed design stage or put on hold until funds were available.

Can’t Treasury boy take her (mine) purse away?
