‘We want Cornettos on the seafront’

ICE cream could soon be on the menu during Town seafront closures on Sundays. 0820114

Culture and Leisure’s closure initiative has been running for three weeks.

Attracting ice cream sellers was part of the department’s developing plans for the scheme, said marketing director Peter Falla.

‘The idea stemmed from the marketing team, who then placed adverts to see if anyone would be interested,’ he said.

‘It’s all about enhancing the experience for islanders while having a stroll along the seafront.’

So far one local seller has come forward.

Mr Falla said the department would be open to more offers.

‘There isn’t a huge amount of this type of thing on the island and from what we know there are four vendors. There may be more,’ he said.

He hoped the ice cream would encourage more families to take advantage of the road closure.

The seafront closure will run until Sunday 6 September, the last one of the school summer holidays.

Mr Falla said so far the closures had been a success.

‘We are coming up to our fourth one and over the three weeks we have had reasonable weather,’ said Mr Falla.

‘The feedback from visitors and islanders has been very encouraging.’

He added that while the closure was not intended to be a huge event, there might be some street entertainers in the future.

‘One of the biggest weekends coming up is 23 August, when there are three cruise ships,’ said Mr Falla.

‘On that day we will have a Taste of Guernsey initiative and there will be extra guided walks from the information centre.’

n Any ice cream vendor interested in selling during the closures should phone Mr Falla on 749253 or email peter.falla@cultureleisure.gov.gg.
