Constables’ veto could mean park’s grass being tarmacked
Monday 10th August 2009, 11:30AM BST.
A LARGE strip of Cambridge Park could be lost so that L’Hyvreuse road can be widened – if parishioners agree to give up the land.
But neighbours are against the plans, according to one of them, Deputy Jan Kuttelwascher.
The road between Cambridge Park and Les Cotils is due for resurfacing but is too narrow to maintain access to businesses and homes in the area while the work is done.
Public Services originally wanted to divert traffic down tree-lined Winston Churchill Avenue during the work.
That was rejected by St Peter Port constables.
An alternative would be a temporary road over the grass – but Public Services wants to make any new surface permanent.

Voice For Victims
Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
There seems to be eagerness to damage the few remaining attractions in St. Peter Port – the North Plantation, St. Julian’s Avenue and now despoilation of Cambridge Park – will it end when all is concreted and tarmacked over?

There’s no denying that road can be awkward at times but if the neighbours (who are affected more than anyone else) are happy to keep things as they are then do just that. Would be a pity to lose the green space.
Better to do what PSD suggested and divert the traffic down Winston Churchill Avenue temporarily, add some fences and a few humps to keep the speed down and protect pedestrians.

I agree with Paul Le P
And further; why give up more of the Green of our Island, our colour is Green and Green it shall remain.
Those who wish to have it repaired; never bother to ask other places they just do it and no encroaching on nearbye land,
It’s a swindle to get more road, and what then?
more business along the regained property, NO NO NO.
Don’t give in people:
Close the road for repairs. Give those who need transport for goods to stock up now; people who visit Cotils can walk the few hundred yards though W C avenue. It’s a big swindle.
Anyway one would think they were talking about the M1, a couple days work, if they get their butts moving,
