TV builder’s wife has taken a shine to the island
Monday 10th August 2009, 10:07AM BST.
CELEBRITY builder Tommy Walsh was the guest of honour at the Capelles Building Stores diamond celebrations over the weekend.
It was the former Ground Force presenter’s first visit to Guernsey and he was really enjoying it.
‘Everyone has been really nice and it is very beautiful,’ he said.
‘My wife has even suggested getting a place here and she is not easily impressed.’
He spent Saturday afternoon signing autographs and giving building tips to the hundreds of people who came to the event.
Company director Steve Le Flem said the day had gone well.
‘We’ve had lots going on. There have been lots of customers and a great deal of free food and drink. It’s been a great day.’
Gerald Duquemin founded the building store in 1949. It was sold to the current director’s father, Peter Le Flem, about 10 years ago and it has stayed in that family since then.
‘We are really proud to be part of the community,’ said Mr Le Flem.
‘It is hard work, but we enjoy it.’
