MAURICE KIRK has been on hunger strike in Cardiff Prison for 26 days.0537902

The colourful former Guernsey resident and vet is on remand accused of possession of a firearm and offering it for sale without proper authority.

Mr Kirk was arrested in June on a charge of selling a decommissioned, triggerless Lewis machine gun from a replica First World War biplane a year ago.

The 64-year-old is now in the hospital wing at Cardiff jail.

He is protesting at being refused permission to personally appear in court to ask a judge to give him bail.

Mr Kirk was told that he could make his application via video link only.

The qualified pilot claims that under the law of habeas corpus, he has the right to appear in person.
