Twilight of Last Night if £9,000 cannot be raised
Tuesday 11th August 2009, 1:00PM BST.
guernsey’s Last Night of the Proms could fail if more sponsors are not found.
The Culture and Leisure Department has teamed up with the Long Port Group, Deutsche Bank and The Partnership advertising agency to put on the event, but another £9,000 is needed.
The classical music night has been staged at the Albert Pier for the past four years.
But organisers could not find a main sponsor this year because of the economic downturn.
Culture and Leisure minister Mike O’Hara said it would be a shame if the event – which costs £25,000 in total – could not go ahead.
‘This event epitomises our pursuit of putting smiles back on people’s faces,’ he said. ‘It has been very popular and it’s a great way to celebrate the end of summer.’
He would like to see it become an established event.
