Nearly 100 will debut in local event
Wednesday 12th August 2009, 12:30PM BST.
THERE will be at least 89 first-timers on the start line for the Sportingbet Guernsey Marathon at the end of the month.
Of the 171 confirmed runners taking part in the centenary event on Sunday 30 August, nearly half will be running their first marathon, but there will be a number of experienced runners who will be expecting to complete the course in fast times.
Race director Peter Head has already highlighted a few who have the potential to break the tape at Foote’s Lane first.
‘The favourite for the men’s event must be among Scott Bulman, from Poole, Chris Carre, from Herne Bay, Chris Ledgard from, Bristol, or David Gardener from London,’ he said.
‘All four have a predicted time of under 2hr 50min.
‘The women’s race could be won by any of around 12 runners whose predicted time will be under 3hr 40min.,’ he added.
Potential entrants have until Saturday 29 August to register to compete.
Race organisers are stressing that there is plenty of time for individuals or teams still wishing to sign up.
