Kiosks weather drop in trade after wettest July since 2004
Thursday 13th August 2009, 2:00PM BST.
KIOSKS owners are battling on despite the wettest July in five years.
Figures from the Guernsey Met Office show it rained on 19 days, just one day short of the record for the month.
Sarah Broderick, who has run Rousse Kiosk for five years, said the weather had been so bad at times that some days she was forced to close because trade was so poor.
Other kiosks, however, said they were doing fine.
Mrs Broderick keeps a book detailing takings compared to the previous year.
‘It’s £200 to £300 a day down on last year,’ she said.
‘But it’s not always that bad.
‘Weather plays a big part in our trade. It always seems to be windy up here.

Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
I have to say I’m a bit of a kiosk connoisseur (I think I’ve had more kiosk snacks than restaurant dinners), and I like cycling and walking between them for a cuppa and something to eat.
I reckon the Rousse kiosk definitely has the best cakes (the carrot cake is nearing perfection in my view), but for somewhere sheltered and pleasant to sit I think Port Soif has the edge, with its own small flock of friendly sparrows.
Anyone else have a favourite?

When visiting Guernsey our favorite kiosk was the one Brian used to run at Saints Bay. A really steep walk down and then up again, but well worth the effort for some great conversation and beautifully cooked food – especially scones and cream! We really missed him the year he was closed due to his little gas explosion! The last time we were there he was replaced by a teenager complete with headphones and pre-packed sandwiches. Great shame.
Brian – wherever you are – you are sorely missed.
