Three tied at the top to set up an exciting climax

Richard PerkinsTHE Island Full-Bore Championships are set up for a thrilling finale on Saturday with three marksmen tied on 252 ex 255.

The second stage of the three-stage event was a Queen’s II competition requiring two sighters and 10 shots to count at 300, 500 and 600 yards for a maximum score of 150 with 30 V bulls.

A past champion on several occasions, Richard Perkins (pictured) strung together scores of 49.06, 49.07 and 50.08 for a total of 148.21 to take the silver medal by a single V bull from Phil Ogier.

Elizabeth College student Jon Branch took third spot on 147.19, but still maintains his grip on the championship with a total of 252.33 and a lead of two V bulls over Ogier, with older brother Nick Branch a further two V bulls adrift.

Ian Donaldson and Perkins have both moved up a place at the expense of a strangely out of form Peter Jory, but the two-point cushion enjoyed by the leading trio could prove too big a mountain for either of them to climb.

Pierre Goubert took over the lead in B class with a 142.14 for a total score of 241.22, but first stage leader Cherry Le Poidevin is just one point behind and with Pete Sirett having a disastrous day it is unlikely anyone will emerge as a threat to the two leaders.
