GUERNSEY juniors hold the upper hand in the Team Trophy after an excellent first leg on the opening day of the BSJA Guernsey Horse of the Year Show.

The hosts carry forward just eight faults to Sunday’s second and concluding leg of the inter-insular match compared to Jersey’s 20 faults.

A magnificent round from team captain Tiffany Gervaise-Brazier riding Clover Dash ensured Guernsey are favourites to reclaim the trophy from their old rivals.

Last to go, the combination put in a faultless display until the final fence, which they clipped but did not dislodge, to register the only clear of the class.

To start the match there was the unusual sight of Kilrea Boy competing for the visitors.

A pony which served Guernsey well for many years, it is now the mount of Francesca Mauger and they got Jersey off to a steady start with only two fences down.

However, Jodie Travers managed to give Guernsey an even better start, piloting Pimms Parade to just four faults – that one error not coming until the penultimate fence.
