Thirty-two set to lose job as NRG goes Dutch

Thursday 27th August 2009, 11:30AM BST.

NRG HouseNRG INTERNATIONAL will make 32 staff redundant on Friday, according to reports.

If confirmed, that could push the Guernsey unemployment figure near the 500 mark – it currently stands at 462.

One employee who contacted the Guernsey Press about the news said: ‘I feel terrible – we are a profitable organisation and good for the group and it is purely a logistical decision because they want to run it all out of the Netherlands.

‘There are about 60 of us here and the first 32 are being made redundant this Friday.’

Guernsey-based NRGi, the international arm of the NRG Group plc, a subsidiary of the Ricoh Company of Japan, is to be integrated with Ricoh International Management, with both being based in Amstelveen. The Ricoh Company is a world leader in manufacturing multifunctional electronic office products.

The NRGi employee did not know what would happen to the remaining Guernsey staff. Negotiations have taken place, the source said.

‘We were first told about this last October, that there would be a move, and from February we knew it was coming, but not when.’

It is not yet known whether any Guernsey staff will move with the company to the Netherlands.

A spokesman for the company said there was nothing to add to its statement issued in February. That said that they would be streamlining NRG International and Ricoh International to a single management structure. It would operate as Ricoh International from Holland.
