Chief’s team off to Mexico
Friday 28th August 2009, 2:29PM BST.
THE chief minister is going to Mexico for next week’s OECD Global Forum on tax information exchange at which around 100 governments will be represented.
Deputy Lyndon Trott (pictured) will be accompanied to Los Cabos by chief executive Mike Brown and deputy director of income tax Richard Green.
Policy Council external affairs officer Lisa Bougourd said: ‘It is a very significant meeting ahead of the forthcoming G20 Summit in developing the next steps in the global campaign to improve transparency and exchange of banking and ownership information.’
The Guernsey delegation had also arranged for formal Tax Information Exchange Agreement discussions with a number of jurisdictions that would be attending, she said.
‘Representatives of the jurisdictions attending the meeting will include senior ministers, ambassadors, attorney-generals and other senior advisers.’
International and supranational body representatives will also be there.
Deputy Trott said he wanted to place on record his appreciation that the team was giving up its holiday weekend without recompense.
The delegation will travel over the weekend to begin meetings on Monday before the formal sessions on 1 and 2 September.

|Does he do anything else than travel the world; no wonder there are ‘black holes’ in the economy.
Isn’t it about time that he was told to do that he was elected for. that is to see that the Island is treated fairly-
He’ll get less votes next round methinks,

Much as I hate the thought of our Chief Minister swanning off to Mexico at the taxpayers expense, this is actually something Guernsey should be represented at.

I’m sure anybody would like to go on a holiday during a bank holiday weekend?
I imagine he’ll be going first class, or via private jet. Let’s only hope it doesn’t have terrorists onboard…
