MATT LE BER and Dan de la Mare have made it a hat-trick of bowls titles in the Travers Pairs.

A convincing 27-7 win over Paul Sargeant and Geoff Savident, did not reflect the fine play by the latter pair, but they were not allowed to get into the match by the current champions, who finished with three ends to spare.

Locals were another team to retain their title as Gary Pitschou and Len Le Ber, now playing with Mick Hullock following Dave Lucas’ retirement, overcame the inexperienced Bad Boys team of Peter Whales, Matt Solway and Wes Baker in the Tostevin Triples.

The champions opened up a 9-0 lead at five ends before the advantage was reduced to four shots and the Bad Boys’ hopes were still alive until the 12th end when they trailed 12-6.

After that, though, it was all one-way traffic and the match ended in 16 of the 18 scheduled ends, 23-6.

Yet another championship to be successfully defended was the Sandeman Fours.

Skip Matt Le Ber lead his Falcons team including Pitschou, Garry Collins and his father Len Le Ber to yet another title against challengers Moonrakers (Sargeant, Steve Machon, Phil Schofield and Savident).

The match was closely fought, as fine bowling by both teams kept the spectators entertained with skip Sargeant keeping his team in the hunt right up to the end of the full 21-end format.

Leading 10-5 at 12 ends, Moonrakers were sunk with a 2-2-1-3-2 sequence against to trail 15-10 at 17.

The champions eventually returned a 19-15 scorecard.
