COUPLE and their two dogs had a lucky escape from a blaze at their home on Friday night.

A large amount of damage was caused to the property, close to Trinity Square, but no one was hurt.

The owner of the house, who asked not to be named, said he and his girlfriend were still in shock.

‘There is a lot of damage and we still don’t know how much can be salvaged,’ he said.

The couple were in bed when they noticed a problem.

‘The electrics went out, so I went to have a look at the fuse box,’ he said.  ‘Then I heard something coming from the bathroom and opened the door – that’s when I knew we had to get out.’

It is believed that the fire was caused by an electrical fault.
