Bailiff Sir Geoffrey Rowland opens the new extension at Maison L'Aumone, watched by Methodist Homes for the Aged chairman Paul Le Boutillier, far right.
A NEW 14-bed extension for the physically frail at Maison L’Aumone was officially opened by Bailiff Sir Geoffrey Rowland yesterday.
Methodist Homes for the Aged, chairman, Paul Le Boutillier, said the new high-dependency unit would be an asset to the residential home.
‘In the past, people who have become physically frail have had to move to other homes within the Bailiwick and we will now be able to care for people with those needs.’
A new unit for Alzheimer’s and dementia sufferers on the site, Maison de Quetteville, will open on 17 October. Both projects are part of the Maison Millions appeal launched by the Guernsey Press, which to date has raised £900,000.
Sir Geoffrey said he was delighted to be asked to become patron of the Maison Million fund-raising team and said he had had no hesitation in accepting. He was equally delighted to have been invited to open the high dependency unit, part of the extended complex.
‘We are all immensely grateful to Methodist Homes for the Aged and to David Hodgetts, as the principal fund-raiser, for their energy and commitment,’ he said.
