GUERNSEY ultimately came third in the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division Six tournament after overcoming Malaysia by just two runs in a nail-biter that went down to the last ball at the Singapore Cricket Club on Saturday.
The Sarnians’ final position in the table looked unlikely after they lost their first three matches of the tournament against Singapore, Bahrain and Malaysia after which they were fighting for their survival.
But after defeating Norway and Botswana, their place in Division Six was safe.
And there were great scenes after their third and fourth play-off match which saw them get their revenge over the Malaysians.
‘What can you say? The boys have been fantastic all week,’ said island manager Dave Hearse.
‘To come third is a true reflection of their ability, their resolve and their commitment.’

Not sure how third is a true reflection when you would have been relegated if Botswana scored another 25

25 runs is a big winning margin in 50 over cricket. Blimey its even bigger than the winning margin in this year’s inter-insular ! 3 wins out of 6 games fully justifies a 3rd or 4th place out of 6 teams. In fact, had the win against Malaysia in the final place playoff come in the group game instead of a narrow loss with 4 balls to spare then our boys would have been promoted.

The one division gap between Jersey and Guernsey is spot on in relation to the current playing standards of the two Islands having been present at the last 3 WCL events

An interesting view seeing as Guernsey with an ICC-compliant team beat Jersey (strengthened by at least one non-ICC eligible player) by 20 runs just a month ago in Guernsey. It remains to be seen whether there will still be a one-division gap once Jersey have played in Nepal in February !

If’s a big word Andy. If you were picked for the inter-insular, Jersey may have won!

As they say though a fifty is like kissing a virgin, you just have to go on!This is what Jersey have done very successfully in last 2 years..rememebr they had a marginal defeat against the mighty Afghanistans and beat the United States of America.Until Guernsey maintan this consistency they will not feast on greater riches.
