A GUERNSEY couple have been touched by donations received in memory of their five-month-old son.
Angus Wallace died on 3 July following complications after open-heart surgery.
Yesterday his dad, 31-year-old Ben, performed a tandem skydive from 10,000ft to raise money for the Southampton Hospital unit which had cared for him.
Mr Wallace was one of many people jumping yesterday and due to do so today, many in aid of charities.
The farmer and his wife, Lisa, 33, said the hospital had become like a second home for the family and, as a way of keeping Angus’s memory alive, they were keen to raise money for the unit.
Mr Wallace landed at the former L’Eree aerodrome at 10.30am.
He was hoping to raise £1,000, but has already topped that with £1,530 – a total still rising.
The couple paid for the cost of the tandem skydive, £330, so all money raised will go to the Friends of the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit.
Mr Wallace said it had gone well but nerves kicked in just before they jumped.
‘When there is a man attached to your back, you are going out of that plane no matter what – you really haven’t got any choice.’
He said that given the chance, he would definitely do it again.
