‘Town role will not keep me from making Leale’s Yard decision’

Wednesday 9th September 2009, 4:00PM BST.

TOWN Centre Partnership chief executive Jack Honeybill will not withdraw from helping to make a planning decision on Leale’s Yard.0814043
The Environment board member said his paid role to promote and help develop Town would not impact upon his ability to make an impartial decision on the proposals to turn Leale’s Yard into a retail centre.
‘I do not think it would in any way prejudice my ability to make the right decision for the island,’ he said.
‘When the question of Leale’s Yard has come up as a discussion topic in Town Centre Partnership meetings I have precluded myself from those talks because I would not want to create any prejudice.’
However, another board member has removed herself from the decision-making process on Leale’s Yard because of a conflict of interest.

    This is absolutely outrageous.
Honeybill should resign from Environment or resign as a fully paid agent of the Town Centre Partnership. His ongoing membership of both is totally untenable.
Compare his position with that of Jenny Tasker. As a member of the Co-op Board of Directors she sees the conflict of interest but Jack the lad cannot.
I bet too that Deputy Honeybill is paid a whole lot more for his work with Town Centre Partnership when compared with Deputy Tasker’s pretty modest remuneration as an elected Co-op board member.

I am fed up of hearing from these stupid self serving hypocrits who are in the position they are in to serve the publics intrest only.

Does honeybill thing the public are stupid???? I can sssure they are not and they will all see the blatant conflict of intrest. It makes me sick the ingnorance of some of these politicians!

Honeybill should be taken to town……literally!

I think a little poem tells it all—
it is how I think not only of Honeywell but most of the ruling bodies,I thought the ones during the occupation was bad, but they were Angels compared to the ones of today.

However this is how I think of them,

    But Man, proud man,
Dress’d in a little brief authority,
Most ignorant of what he’s most assur’d,
His glossy essence, like an angry ape,
Plays such fantastic tricks before High Heaven
    As makes the Angels weep.

    That poem by William Shakespeare

I for one support this. I hope he is completely biased in favour of town so that the whole Leale’s Yard sham that is destined to be nothing more than a fat waste of money never sees the light of day.

It may well be that Deputy Honeybill can make an unbiased decision however that will always be up for debate. For the sake of political integrity he should withdraw from the decision making process to ensure the public can have confidence in the impartiality of the decision.

    My View

Deputy Honeybill’s stance is just typical of some States members and goes to the heart of the WAO report. Good Corporate Governance is also about transparency Deputy Honeybill and this will include a conflict of interest. Perhaps you should read the report and learn from it (that is if you want too) before deciding to ignore it and do just what you have always done.

Good Government is about learning from mistakes, making changes where necessary and moving forward.

Surely the Chief Minister should be stepping in here and using his strength of personality he should advise Honeybill that his holier than thou stance is just one more cut in the States death of a thousand cuts

The Guernsey public needs to remember his response and vote him out as soon as possible.

The States of Guernsey needs to project a whiter than white image on all issues.

Honeybill must be reprimanded for damaging the States integrity.

We need a shake up. All vested interests must be eliminated. Look at Jones! He’s “too busy” to abide by the rules. Hey Dave, throw out some more teachers while you’re at it! You can use a digger.

Honeybill was the most pompous of all the candidates I met. When asked about zero ten he told me I would be stupid to enter a conversation with him about it. Seeing as I’m a pacific kinda gull, I threw up on his shoes.

To be fair to Honeybill, I don’t think he understands the conflict situation – just not sharp enough.

Come on folks, who would expect any different from this character?

Takes private money with one hand, preaches public service with the other. I only hope he’s one of the ones who gets remembered at the next election.

Along with “punch your teeth out” Trott, “Golliwog” Flouquet, and “one law for me, another for you” Jones

People interested in Mr Honeybill’s suitability for a position on the Town Centre Partnership could do worse than explore his role in a company called Doumejour and its involvement in the Coupee Lane debacle.

I know I am old and not the sharpest tool in the box but how can Mr. Honeybill have a paid position on The Town centre partnership and not have a conflict of interest when he sits on Environment to decide on future development at St. Sampsons. I think he should abstain from this debate just like Jenny Tasker is doing.

It seems Mr Honeybill has enjoyed a very successful career since his retirement by knowing on which side his bread is buttered without paying too much attention to the source of the butter. I think it’s insulting to say he’s not sharp enough to know where his own interests lie – and very precisely, too.

Jack is on a nice little earner with the States, together with his Nat West bank managers pension, and he aint going to give any of it up me thinks.

Honest Jack is organising the new one million pound lottery.

Jackie posted something back in February on the last lottery figures which no-one seemed to pick up on and it appears to be happening again.

Ticket sales will bring in £1,500,000
    Prizes will amount to £1,100,000
    Les Bourgs will receive £380,000
    leaving £20,000 ‘spare’.

There will be costs for printing the tickets and a bit of advertising but are there any other costs involved to justify keeping back the whole £20,000 which Les Bourgs could no doubt do with ?????

I’d also heard murmers about Jack and Coupee Lane a while back. The trail went a bit cold during the recent fuss about the incongruous proposals.

Can’t see any reference to Doumejour Investments on Mr Honeybill’s declaration of registered interests form on the States website. Do you have any further info?

My comments about interests were tongue in cheek.

I would agree with your sentiments that Honeybill knows ” where his own interests lie – and very precisely, too”

Ray what about insurance, I believe that to be quite costly to underwrite and if the tickets aint sold they might need it.
