Civil servants pledge to support change
Thursday 10th September 2009, 2:29PM BST.
CIVIL servants agree that improvements need to be made to Guernsey’s system of government.
Last week the Wales Audit Office released a devastating report on the States, urging urgent action to address deficiencies in the system.
It highlighted problems including politicians being involved in operational issues that should be the responsibility of civil servants and a ‘silo mentality’ with departments not working well together.
It also said the current structure did not allow clear leadership at civil service level.

‘The civil service note the WAO report and will play an active part and cooperate with any action proposed to improve the situation,’ said national secretary Frank Allen.
The Public Accounts Committee also met yesterday afternoon.
It commissioned the WAO report that it has officially handed to the Policy Council.
On Tuesday, the council announced that it did not want the report debated.
