Moonpig’s pre-tax profits near-treble

ONLINE greeting card company moonpig.com has posted pre-tax profits of £6.7m. for the year ended 30 April – up £4.2m. from 12 months earlier.
The growing demand for digitally printed personalised greeting cards also helped the company more than double its turnover to £20.9m. from £7.9m., for the same period compared to a year previous.
Moonpig moved the production side of its business to Guernsey two-and-a-half years ago and currently occupies about 10,000sq. ft at Garenne Park, while employing 35 permanent staff.
Moonpig’s founder and chairman Nick Jenkins, who is based in London, named the business after his childhood nickname.
‘The original premise when we set up the company was that if the product was good enough, our customers would sell it for us, and that’s certainly been the case,’ said Mr Jenkins.
‘Our success over the past 10 years boils down to the simple fact that we have a fantastic product which is different from anything else you can buy on the High Street.’
Moonpig now has more than 2.5 million customers and accounts for more than 90% of the online card market – selling six million cards last year.
The company also confirmed recently that it would be moving into the former Simco premises on the Braye Road Industrial Estate sometime in October, after buying the 33,000sq. ft property for £2.375m. in May.
