HERM experienced a welcome dose of live music as a Take That tribute band came over to rock the island for two nights in a row.

It was originally booked for two nights at the hotel as one of several successful theme nights in the marquee. Previous themes have included Grease, Dirty Dancing and Abba, and all have sold out almost immediately.

However, the first marquee night was cancelled due to bad weather. High winds made it impossible for the Captain’s Table boat to make it across from Guernsey.

Rather than disappoint everyone, the band was invited to play at the Mermaid Tavern. Its members set up on the top deck area of the courtyard and despite the terrible weather and heavy rain, many residents and guests made it down to the pub and the show went on.

The audience was treated to classic hits such as Could It Be Magic and It Only Takes A Minute, taking everyone back to their teeny-bopper years. And those who didn’t like Take That’s music the first or second time around were just happy to enjoy the rarity of live music in the island.

The second night went ahead in a very different venue. The marquee was a much more formal setting than the rainy courtyard, with guests enjoying a three-course dinner and drinks along with the entertainment. This time, the weather was kinder and the show went ahead without a hitch.

The marquee events have all been very successful and have raised money for the three main charities that the hotel has been supporting this year – the Flying Christine, Channel Islands Air Search and World Vision.
