LEE MERRIEN smashed the island half-marathon record at yesterday’s Bupa Great North Run.
The Guernseyman placed 12th overall in a high-class international field with a time of 64min. 27sec.
The time not only bettered his best for the distance by nearly five minutes it also sliced a whopping three-and-a-half minutes off the island record of 67-58 set by Australian-based Peter Bourgaize in 1986.
