Our ‘princess, scholar and warrior’ makes The Sunday Times
Monday 21st September 2009, 2:29PM BST.
TENNIS star Heather Watson made a splash yesterday when she featured in a full-page article in The Sunday Times.
The 17-year-old and her mum, Michelle, featured in a prominent piece in the Sport section, which predicted the future was bright for the new champion.
The Guernsey player last weekend became the first British girl to win the US Open junior title and has since been catapulted to fame in the national media.
For the past six years she has attended the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Florida and the founder of the centre said Miss Watson was exemplary as a student and as a player.
‘She’s a princess, a scholar and a warrior,’ said Mr Bollettieri.
Miss Watson was in action again this weekend in Saguenay, Canada, where she breezed past Canadian Priscila Nunez 6-0, 6-1 and into the main singles draw in the $50,000 National Bank Challenger.
