Member of Health board faces jail
Tuesday 22nd September 2009, 11:30AM BST.
A HEALTH and Social Services board member resigned yesterday as he faced being sent to prison for drink-driving.
Bruce Mansell (pictured) is a non-political member of the department that is trying to discourage people from excess drinking.
In the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, he admitted driving while more than three times the legal limit.
Mansell, 62, of Les Rhabilleurs, The Hollies, Bailiff’s Cross Road, St Andrew’s, committed the offence in Queen’s Road, Mount Row and Le Vauquiedor, St Peter Port, and Bailiff’s Cross, St Andrew’s.
Prosecuting Advocate Gary Perry said Mansell had given a breath reading of 120 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath – the legal limit is 35.
Mansell has already been convicted of drink-driving within the past 10 years.
Judge Cherry McMillen said the reading exceeded the guidelines passed down by the Royal Court whereby the Magistrate’s Court had to consider a custodial sentence for readings of 110 of higher.
‘I’m in no doubt that you are at serious risk of a sentence of custody,’ she said.
Sentencing was adjourned until Thursday 15 October.
