GUERNSEY boss Tony Vance is not concerned by his side’s lack of goals in their victory over Northampton Town Football League on Saturday.

The Greens were clearly the stronger side of the two in their FA National League System Cup tie at Cogenhoe United’s ground in Northamptonshire, but only came away with a 2-0 win.

‘We were certainly better than them,’ said Vance (pictured).

‘[The problem] was literally the final execution, be it the final pass or the finishing. We created loads of chances and at set pieces we were strong, but balls were flying across the box and people weren’t there.

‘If we’d won by five or six goals it wouldn’t have been an injustice at all. It was just important to win.

‘At the end of the day we’re in the hat [for the next round].’

The goals, when they did arrive, came late in the second half when they were some worried looks on the Guernsey faces.

Ross Allen scored the first from the penalty spot followed by substitute Simon Tostevin’s strike.

‘We were getting nervous,’ said Vance.

‘We knew we were better than them but you’ve still got to get the ball in the back of the net.’

Vance also experimented with a new formation that saw Dave Rihoy and Glyn Dyer given free roles behind sole striker Allen.

‘It was something that I wanted to do,’ said Vance.
