POLICE fear vigilantes might seek retribution against motorcyclists alleged to have been involved in a road crash in which a young pedestrian died.

Callum Eborall, 11, was killed as he crossed Les Banques at about 9.30pm on Friday 15 May.

Three teenagers appeared in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday charged with offences relating to the incident. Beforehand, police asked the media not to publish the full addresses of the two who are adults.

‘All persons directly involved in this tragic incident are fully aware of who they are,’ said Inspector Tom Makins. ‘The police wish to stop “vigilantes” with no connection to the Eborall family who may wish to harass the two males and their families.’

The statement had been agreed with the Eborall family.

A 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, stood by his parents in court as the charge against him, of causing death by dangerous driving, was read out.

Jason Gilbert, 19, and Craig Mollet, 17, who both live in the Vale, are accused of driving at speeds dangerous to the public.

The teenagers said nothing apart from confirming their names and addresses to the court and no pleas were taken.

Prosecuting advocate Gary Perry said the legal representatives of all three were seeking an adjournment of two weeks.

Judge of the Magistrate’s Court Cherry McMillen adjourned the case until Monday 5 October.

The defendants were bailed on condition that they do not drive or ride any motorised vehicle or attempt to do so. Neither will they be allowed to ride as pillion passengers, but they are allowed to be passengers in a car.
