GUERNSEY put in a pleasing performance at the weekend’s 2009 Adult Triple Crown at the Island Bowl.
Up against some of the best bowlers from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Jersey, the home side came second overall in the women’s events and fourth in the men’s.
‘We did well,’ said the secretary of the Guernsey Tenpin Bowling Association, Rick Lovell.
‘We got a girl and a guy in the master’s events – that was good to do that.
‘Overall, it was pleasing enough from a Guernsey point of view. We did what we expected and that was what I was hoping.’
Following Friday’s singles events, which saw Sarnians Steve Cutler come ninth in the men’s and Lauren Hurford come a brilliant fourth in the women’s, the attention switched to the doubles and trios matches on Saturday.
England’s Matt Miller and Mike Quarry were victorious in the men’s doubles with a total pin count of 1,230 over three games.
Kenny Donnelly and Billy Nimick of Northern Ireland came second followed by the Gary Newton and Chris Jaap of Wales, who had come first and second in the men’s singles the day before.
The highest placed Guernsey bowlers were Cutler and Tim O’Connor, in joint fourth place with a total pin count of 1,206.
