North: Ground deal close

Wednesday 23rd September 2009, 2:30PM BST.

Dave FinnNORTH are on the verge of buying a large slice of land which, they hope, will provide for all their future sporting needs.

‘It’s with the advocates and I’ve got no doubt it is going through,’ said North president Dave Finn yesterday of a project which is already and will remain their major focus in the immediate years ahead.

‘It is why we haven’t entered any of the [UK county] cup competitions. All our money and our focus is going into this at the moment.’

Finn (pictured) said matters were proceeding behind the scenes.

‘We are in the procedure of buying it. We’ve agreed a price and it is with the advocates.

‘Everything is agreed with the two parties.

‘We have in-principle permission from Environment to put in sports fields.’

Finn said that once the deal had been struck more detailed plans will go into Environment and it just may be that cricket will have a big part to play in the funding of the development, perhaps mirroring the fantastic progress made at Rovers’ Port Soif headquarters to the benefit of the island’s two major team sports.
