THE new autocross season began in entertaining fashion at Chouet Beach on Sunday.
As well as the traditional fun-meeting races, there was one for ‘Old Boys/Girls’ from the last 40 years of racing.
Richard Smith raced in the very early days of the club and is still racing today. He took the win in this race, after Prev Le Prevost retired two laps from flag fall, but Smith was nearly caught by Eric Trump.
Steve Le Gallez was third in Ozzy Ozanne’s Jag and John Le Page came fourth.
Shane Le Poidevin finished the reverse gear race on his side, having tipped the Jaguar over after the finish line.
He then won the reverse track race and drama happened again as his car momentarily caught fire on the last corner.
Newly-elected president Leeroy Sebire had begun the meeting well by winning his heat race, standard tyres andJ-turn race.
However, things did not go to plan after the interval as he failed to win another race.
Callum Queripel ended the meeting with a win in the 20-lap Grand Slam, having lapped all the other drivers by lap nine, including previous winner Smith, who had no answer for the Subaru.
Some of the drivers had gone to a lot of effort with painting their vehicles.
Postman Pat’s van (Justin Robilliard), a Pink and Blue Citroen 2CV (which failed to rollover despite Darren Le Gallez’s best efforts) and the black/yellow and red of the Devil Drivers stood out from the rest.
