Loveridge leads Guernsey challenge
Friday 25th September 2009, 2:29PM BST.
GUERNSEY ace Alice Loveridge (pictured) will be in action this weekend as the Sportingbet Guernsey Women’s A team begin their campaign in the national Women’s British League Division One.
The team won promotion from Division Two last season and captain Kay Chivers is confident that they have what it takes to be competitive in the higher league, beginning this weekend in Bristol.
‘We started at the bottom of the league system in Division Five several years ago and, despite missing a year which led to a compulsory drop, we have progressively moved up the leagues.
‘The three of us will play two games each. If Alice wins both of her games and Dawn [Morgan] and I win one each, we stand a good chance of beating or drawing against each team we play.
‘There are, however, players in this league who will be able to challenge Alice, so it’s not going to be smooth sailing by any means,’ she said.
Samantha Kershaw, Kate Stubbington and new team member Beth Priest will also be playing for the island in Bristol over the weekend for the Sportingbet Guernsey Women’s B team.
