AIRPORT neighbours have condemned Public Services’ handling of the runway refurbishment plans.

Those living nearby questioned how States members could decide whether to give the £81m. project the go-ahead before knowing the full impact.

The issue will be debated next week when the department is also likely to come under fire from Treasury because it wants the money without coming back to the States for final approval.

‘I cannot comment on whether they should delay the debate,’ said resident Gregory Whiteman.

‘But it is a fact that the Public Services Department has had nine months since the last debate to undertake a full and detailed study of all the impacts and have failed to do this.

‘The department’s own words in writing are “an EIA will be the most appropriate and effective means of assessing the proposals”.

‘This has not yet been done, nor even a baseline assessment of the current airport footprint.

‘How can the States then consider each proposal without the full impacts being on the table?’

The residents believe the department has not considered an increase in aircraft noise, visual intrusion and risk of accidents.

I have to say that it is about time for Guernsey to expand their airport services even if it is unfortunately at the cost of nearby residents, I am sure they will be reimbursed for their losses, I am all for it!

Having worked at the Airport in the past (and Jerseys), i wonder if any holiday makers/residents who have had luggage removed from aircraft due to weight limitations caused by our small strip over here would of been pleased had the runway been longer back then, the runway is to short end of really, question is should the runway have been done first before the terminal, the other question then becomes why have we got such a non future proof (expansion) terminal anyway and which buffoon designed it.

Oh Mr Mike Ford – You would make such an excillent deputy in the fact that you obviously open your mouth with no concern for the guernsey people and with little knowlege of what you are talking about!! Perhaps you should visit this family and see exactly what the airport are proposing and the huge inpact it will have on their lives!
And Mr Butler you state that you are sure that they will get compensation – Yet there is no allowance or buget to compensate property owners for devaluation of their properties.
So how much over budget will this development run I wonder, at the cost of the taxpayer.
Aside from the people and the properties affected the proposals are a SHAM and it does not take a genious to see the holes and inaccuracies in the proposals.
Perhaps the pair of you would like to buy the affected properties at the current value?
As for saying the Airport has to expand – well you obviously havn’t looked at the facts – your ignorance and lack of compassion makes me sick!
