FLAMES engulfed a car after an accident at Camp du Roi crossroads on Friday night.

Police said one of the vehicles had failed to stop for a red light.

Residents who heard the crash and saw their street lit up by the fireball were amazed to find nobody had been injured.

Cath Dodd, 59, was leaving her mother’s house near the crossroads when she heard the car go up at about 9.20pm.

‘I have never seen high flames like that. The car was engulfed in fire,’ she said.

Three young women in the Ford Ka had managed to get out of the vehicle.

The other vehicle involved, a Renault Laguna, was being driven by a woman with a young male passenger and they also escaped injury.

‘I don’t know how they got out of the car that caught fire. It was covered in flames and we thought they were still in there, so we were really worried,’ said Mrs Dodd.
