CHIEF Minister Lyndon Trott met key Government figures yesterday when he attended the first day of the Labour Party conference in Brighton.
His programme included a series of prearranged face-to-face engagements.
Those he met included Financial Secretary to the Treasury Stephen Timms, who has strategic oversight of taxation in the UK, Economic Secretary to the Treasury Ian Pearson, former Paymaster General Geoffrey Robinson, and Lord Bach, the minister at the Ministry of Justice with responsibility for the Crown Dependencies.
He also addressed a seminar organised by the Association of Chartered and Certified Accountants and one organised by Christian Aid, which asked whether an end to tax havens would bring an end to global poverty.
‘I explained our recent inclusion on the OECD white list and was able to engage with all the key stakeholders there,’ said Deputy Trott.
‘I think attending these events is very valuable. Speaking at these events isn’t simply about raising Guernsey’s profile, it’s about breaking down misconceptions and targeting those people who have the most influence over the development of policy.
‘We don’t sit back and wait for an opportunity nowadays – we seek them out,’ he said.
During the conference, Chancellor Alistair Darling made a speech in which he promised new laws within weeks to crack down on bank bonuses driven by ‘greed and recklessness’.

It was nice of him to pop along and wave them a fond farewell.

Yawn … the latest in a long run of self-promoting jollies for the CM… He certainly seeks opportunities – opportunities to build up his (very minor and unimportant) part in the scheme of the world at the expense of the taxpayer.
And another thing – how come the States of Guernsey, in their dire financial straits, can always find the cash to send Trott on all these mickey mouse ‘political’ holidays?

Basic survival rule # one . when surrounded by predators do not under ANY circumstances run around drawing attention to yourself
# two when the predators have noticed your antics do not under any circumstances whinge, whine or bleat that you are not worthy of their attention, to them you are a tasty little pink morsel.
#three , when you are noticed and have managed to placate a few of them ,beware ,because a few of their more hungry buddies are coming for you .
#four when all is lost defend yourself using all means possible ,bite scratch kick or let forth an intolerable stink which makes you unpalatable to said predators, are you following this analogy Lyndon ,because thanks to your antics and those of your government in letting you get away with it, guernseys position is that we are very shortly going to be turned into the equivalent of alligator/lion/shark poop and it started with the weak lame stance we took on zero 10 ,i hope you are happy ,because where guernsey people used to be reassured and proud of the fact that we had money in the bank ,good social services,a united group of workers known affectionatley as the:states:and power in the finanacial world it’s all gone, we stand naked in crowd of people who want nothing more than to ruin us and see us humiliated and you are doing your best to help them ,pack it in will you, and lets get a biting scratching kicking stinky government in.
