RESIDENTS of Maison Maritaine and Longue Rue House were yesterday treated to Porsche rides, beauty pampering and a full cooked breakfast for Older People’s Day.
Maison Maritaine care manager Carolynne Bourgaize said the United Nations-sponsored event was about doing something a bit different for the elderly.
‘It is really lovely to spend time with them,’ she said.
‘Often staff get tied up in a lot of paperwork, but today we are trying to put all that aside.’
It was the first time the home had celebrated the day and Mrs Bourgaize said it was important to show older people they were valued.
Win Mahy, 82, said it was a wonderful day.
‘It is very special,’ she said. ‘The staff can get so busy, so it is nice to be with them. They have organised it really well.’
